Best Restaurants & Bars Samos

Yes, we’re going to talk about food and drinks on Samos. I just can’t get enough! From traditional Greek restaurants and cafés to trendier, more modern kitchens and bars—we’re still far from having tried them all. So if you’ve discovered a great spot, be sure to leave a comment!

We’ve put together a list of some of our favorite places for you. Of course, tastes differ, so make sure to explore and enjoy them for yourself.

Kafeneon Kyriakos – Pythagorion

We start our route at the Pythagorion Station, a place we first stumbled upon during our search for my favorite Greek wine: Retsina. At a busy intersection, our eyes fell on a small kafeneon—literally a “news café,” where village life comes together and you’re always among the first to hear what’s happening.

Outside, simple blue chairs sit under the sun—charming and unpretentious, just the way you hope it would be. The café has been around for over a hundred years, now run by Kyriakos and his wife Judith. His parents are still there every day, always busy, always involved. His father welcomes us—mostly in Greek—but immediately understands which wine I mean. Without further explanation, the Retsina appears on the table, accompanied by a small dish of chips, peanuts, or fresh cucumber. That’s just how it’s done here.

During the day, it’s quiet. A few locals, some shade, time passing slowly. But as the sun dips lower and people return from the beach or finish work, the square fills up. Greek music gets louder, conversations mix together, and suddenly everything clicks. Every season, the same people return to this cozy spot.

The street outside is full of life too: cars squeezing into tight corners, a large bus forcing its way through, jeeps full of tourists taking the corner a little too enthusiastically. It’s chaotic, vibrant, and exactly what makes it irresistible. Here, you feel the real rhythm of the island.

When Robert mentioned he wanted to try gigantes—but we couldn’t find them anywhere on the menu—Kyriakos just smiled. “Come here tomorrow evening,” he said, “we’ll take care of it.” And indeed, the next night his parents had specially prepared gigantes just for us. I was utterly amazed. This is exactly why we love places like this.

P2 Bar – Pythagorion

For a delicious cup of coffee, fresh juice, or a late breakfast, this is the place to be. Tucked away in a narrow side street in Pythagorion, you’ll find this charming little bar. Tables and chairs line the pavement on both sides of the street, creating a cozy and peaceful spot—a perfect escape from the sometimes busy streets of Pythagorion.

Restaurant Elia – Pythagorion

The name of the restaurant, means “Olives.” It’s located near the end of the promenade, on the way to the Pythagoras statue. On Saturday evenings, there’s always live music, instantly creating a warm and lively atmosphere. The staff are friendly, and the menu invites you to try everything—all traditional Greek dishes, each one delicious. The fact that locals love to eat here is always a good sign.

My personal favorites? The Pythagorion salad, grilled chicken, fried zucchini, and octopus—everything was fantastic. And in between, I danced so much I almost forgot to eat—nights like these are the ones you remember.

Restaurant Faros – Pythagorion

This restaurant is an absolute must-visit. If you walk a little further past the boulevard, you’ll come across a few more restaurants. The very last one is Faros, which means “Lighthouse.”

It was here that Robert proposed to me in 2020. Stella had set the table with a feast: fresh lobster, all kinds of fish, a refreshing salad, and Dimitri poured us an amazing wine. It was a full moon, we were sitting on the beach, and the moment felt simply perfect. Before I could even say “yes,” Stella was already clapping and jumping for joy.

The menu is traditional Greek, and everything is freshly prepared. Want fresh fish? This is the place. Lobster isn’t on the menu by default—you need to order it a day in advance to ensure it’s truly fresh. The pastas are divine, and sometimes Mama makes a homemade moussaka that simply makes you happy. Over time, Dimitri and his wife have become good friends, and Christos, his brother, has also meant so much to us since we moved here. The warmth of these people is unforgettable—which makes Faros so much more than just a restaurant.

Restaurant Rementaki – Pythagorion

Rementaki is another lovely spot, located just near Faros, in the same charming part of the boulevard. We discovered it in the winter—one of the few restaurants open at that time, and with live music. The dishes are delicious; my favorite is the stuffed cabbage with minced meat and rice, topped with a refreshing lemon sauce.

The staff are incredibly friendly, and as soon as you step inside, you immediately feel at ease. It’s one of those places where food and atmosphere come together, and you just don’t want to leave.

Restaurant Knife & Fork – Pythagorion

Time for a break from traditional Greek cuisine—sometimes you just crave a good steak or something different. Here, you can have it all. The menu is packed with delicious dishes, from meat and chicken to the best pasta on the island.

The atmosphere and service are truly outstanding—I’d even say some of the best on Samos. Manolis and Katerina, the owners, pour all their passion into the food, the menu, and the welcome you receive. You can feel it in everything they do.

And to perfectly end the evening, they always bring out a dessert that leaves you speechless. What an experience!

Restaurant Cena – Pythagorion

Another restaurant where Greek flavors beautifully meet modern cuisine is Cena. My favorites? The fried goat cheese salad, the chicken salad, or the incredibly tender steak tenderloin. The saganaki gets a special twist here with a delicious olive chutney. Everything is just truly delicious.

Soloon wine bar – Pythagorion

A little different from the rest, but absolutely worth visiting in Pythagorion: Soloon Wine Bar. Craving sushi, Asian dishes, a burrata salad, or mini pizzas? You can have it all here. The wine is served in a fun and unique way, with dry ice that wraps the whole table in a soft cloud of smoke—an experience you won’t forget.

The owner is friendly, the staff are welcoming, and it immediately feels familiar. I discovered this spot during a night out with my friends Stella and Kalliopi, and we had such a wonderful evening. It’s one of those places you keep coming back to, again and again.

Summertime Bar – Pythagorion

There are plenty of great bars in Pythagorion, and we love trying out different ones along the boulevard. Still, we end up at Summertime Bar most often. Usually for a coffee after dinner, or to finish the evening with an espresso martini—which is absolutely irresistible here.

Summertime Bar has an extensive menu of cocktails, soft drinks, and during the day, you can also enjoy breakfast or lunch. The staff are always friendly, and I’m always thrilled when I can snag a comfortable seat—because among all the typical Greek chairs, those are rare, and that little moment of comfort feels like a small gift.

Panorama Tavern – Pagondas

If you’re looking for authentic, traditional Greek food, away from the crowds, no fuss, everything fresh, with stunning views and a truly relaxing experience—but with just that little touch of fun—then head to Panorama Tavern in Pagondas. Our friend Irakles runs the place, sometimes helped by his daughter. It’s absolutely not a high-end touristy restaurant, which is exactly what makes it so charming. I’ve always had fantastic meals here!

We discovered the taverna by chance on a road trip. We were in the mood for coffee and happened to drive by. Upon entering, we were warmly welcomed and immediately offered a frapé. Irakles shared stories about his life here: how everything comes fresh from the land, how happy he is with his peaceful existence, and that he’s perfectly content running just a few tables. When we left, he even gave me some oranges—so kind!

Dining at Panorama Tavern feels like visiting your grandfather. You’re treated like family, Irakles chats with you, and all the while you enjoy breathtaking views. The only sound you hear is the wind rushing over the hills. Pure peace, pure magic—and always, always delicious food.

Irakles has since become a true friend. He’s helped us in the garden of our new home and made sure we had enough wood for our stove, so we could stay warm during the cooler days on Samos.

Restaurant Nero & Alati – Ireon

Nero & Alati—which means “Water and Salt”—is a small taverna in Ireon, right on the beach. The first time we ate here was with our friends Dimitri and Kalliopi, and now it truly feels like a privilege to dine here with locals. They often order dishes that aren’t even on the menu, letting you taste almost everything.

I remember a dish with sea urchin dressing, perfect for dipping your bread—simply delicious. If you’re looking for meat, this isn’t the place, but for seafood lovers, it’s a little slice of heaven. The combination of fresh food, the view of the water, and the relaxed atmosphere makes it a spot you’ll always want to return to.

Restaurant Nektarios – Ireon

The menu features delicious Greek dishes—all served in generous portions and full of flavor. The service is friendly, the restaurant is small and cozy, and you’re seated right by the water, with the gentle sound of the waves in the background. Here, you truly get a taste of how good Greek food can be.

Restaurant Panorama – Koumaradei

We used to always drive past this place; from the outside, it looked like a small snack bar with a few tables and bar stools, and we never saw anyone inside. That is, until it got so hot that I really needed to stop for a drink. We stepped inside and were surprised: it turned out to be a spacious restaurant with a stunning panoramic view.

We ordered a cold Mythos and some Greek mezze, enjoying the relaxed atmosphere. One time, we even got to experience a party there, complete with live music and lots of delicious food. A truly typical Greek restaurant in Koumaradei, where the surprises and hospitality make all the difference.

Meteora wine bar – Koumaradei

Another special spot is Meteora Wine Bar. In the summer, it’s usually closed because the owners run Bar Atmos in Pythagorion, but outside the season, you can enjoy it here. It’s secluded, almost magical, with a breathtaking view.

We had dinner here one Christmas evening with friends, while enjoying live music. The interior is equally stunning: a ceiling of wooden beams, a large stone fireplace, and a warm, inviting atmosphere. The menu is generous—not typically traditional Greek—which makes it all the more interesting.

What makes this place truly special is that it’s popular with locals for breakfast or brunch. Visiting Samos off-season? Then this is definitely a place to check out.

Restaurant Moita – Samos Town

In Samos Town, at the very end of the boulevard, you’ll find Moita Bar. What an amazing spot—beneath you, the waves crash against the rocks, and you can immediately feel the sea all around. We’re not entirely sure what kind of restaurant it usually is, but when we visited, it was Asian night, and we enjoyed delicious sushi and noodles. A place where the view and atmosphere make the food absolutely complete.

MyHouse – Samos Town

Near the square in Samos Town, you’ll find this cozy bar. We love coming here for a cup of coffee, which is always surprisingly good. There’s plenty more on the menu, but we haven’t tried much of it yet.

In the summer, you can sit right by the water, in the winter or on sunny days you can enjoy the outdoor terrace, otherwise the covered area is perfect. It’s always busy, especially with locals gathering together—because having coffee together is truly a ritual here. It’s that combination of atmosphere, people, and coffee that makes this spot so special.

Bar/Barber Barberia1870 – Karlovassi

This might sound like a strange idea: having coffee at the barber. At least, that’s what we thought at first. But what a great concept! We were in Karlovassi, probably just done buying the kitchen or something, and decided to grab a coffee at a square that looked inviting.

The coffee was served, and around us mostly men were sitting outside, while a few students occupied another table. When we went inside to pay, we realized it was also a barbershop. Men were getting their hair cut busily, and the building itself looked wonderfully authentic.

The next time we visited Karlovassi, we went back for coffee, and Robert even had time for a haircut in between. Perfect! A place where unexpected combinations suddenly make perfect sense.

Fish Tavern – Karlovasi

Just outside Karlovasi, on the road towards Samos Town, you’ll find this taverna—or maybe it finds you? We stumbled upon it when we got a little lost. We took a turn and suddenly came across this restaurant. Well, lunch time anyway, so we stopped. Another cool, authentic spot—no frills, just good Greek food by the sea, with a stunning view of the Turkish coastline.
